About the Instructor María Virginia Dionisi

Maria Virginia Dionisi started to train Taekwon-Do ITF in 1982 when she was 8 years old, following her two brothers Marcelo and Fernando. Her instructor was Sabum Carlos Mendez, today VI degree. She became black belt at the age of 15, being the first woman with such graduation in the Province of Misiones, Argentina. From that date she has been working on the development of Taekwon-Do ITF.

In 1988 she started to work as Assistant Instructor and a few years later (1993) she opening her own school (Instituto Dionisi), always while umpiring, coaching and competing in regional, national and international championships.

In 1990, the day of her 16th anniversary, she accomplished one of her dreams: meeting General Choi Hong Hi, the founder of Taekwon-Do.

During the same year -and still being a junior competitor- she started to spar with adults in order to gain a place at the Argentinean squad. Two years later and after four Argentinean National Championships she classified for the Senior World Championship in Pyong Yang, North Korea.

In 1994, while at 3rd year of law school, she also attended a university course orientated to martial arts instructors obtaining a diploma of Expert in Combat Sports. In between other subjects, she studied planning trainee, organization and administration of tournaments and physical education.

In 2000 she moved to Belgium after obtaining a bourse to do a traineeship at the EU. This occasion allowed her to compete during one year in Belgium and also in another European Countries. In 2003, and after spending one year and a half in London, she decided to set up her life in Belgium where she restarted competition in 2004 and opened a new TKD School (ITF Brussels) in 2005.

Sabum Virginia Dionisi is a Member of the Belgian National Team since 2005, having represented the country in three World Championships (Germany, Canada and Argentina), two World Cups (Spain and Italy) and five European Championships (Italy, Romania, Slovak Republic, Poland and Spain).
